Getting to know Ifor

A trip to Ynyslas to meet Ifor was long overdue. I've had some info on here for quite a while but never managed to get over to see for myself (check out 'forces of nature' for up to date info). The forecast for lovely sunny weather, clear skies and 10mph Easterly wind suggested Ifor would show.

We drove over Friday night and crashed out parked up on the beach, alarm set for 5.45 and doors wide open, not really believing the hype. 5am and we're woken by the wind, and the sand blowing everywhere, clearly pretty windy! 4.7 windy!!

Fairly high tide first thing..

Things got better as the tide dropped to reveal the sand bars and speed strip.

Some pics from the k4 harness mount with my new Hero3 Black with remote -how cool is this thing!..  (attached the remote to the wetsuit chest zip for easy access whilst blasting)

Sailed with the slightly wacky set up of 2 degree Ezzy asy 8cm fronts and the new soon to be released Bubble Rocket 'flatwater' freestyle fin (16). All worked really good, as did the Holy cow despite the super pointy low volume tail (just be sure to keep the weight off it when going in reverse..)

I expected the wind to ease off by about 10, but come 11 it was as strong as ever, and I'd had my fill after 4hrs and needed some breakfast. What a wind machine!

I was also keen for a weekend at the beach to try out the new 8'11 Loco SUP -see how far I could paddle on it and see how Trudie got on. I'm please to say very good on both counts as I was worried it'd be a little small. I paddled for about 3 hrs in the end as I just kept wanting to see round the next corner, usually just more massive jelly fish..

We finished Saturday with some on the beach beers out the back of the Victoria Inn in Borth, very nice, whilst watching the dolphins jumping infont of the setting sun, even better, which made Trudies year.(too far off for the iphone)

Geoff drove over for last orders having seen my 4.7 twittering and assurance that Sunday would be the same -same forecast afterall. Of course it wasn't windy, Ifor the wind machine let us down and didn't really show (although Geoff had rigged and wobbled back on a 5.0 before I awoke). The only noticable difference being more cloud further down the Estuary, but very worrying that such a skunking could always be on the cards.

Luckily we had the SUP and some baeutiful Welsh scenery at our disposal..

We headed up to the next Estuary -Mawddach and launched from the toll bridge.

Another great day in the outdoors, rounded off with a pint in the GeorgeIII Inn. Beautiful place to SUP -just be aware of the crazy pushing tide! We expected it to give us a helping hand back up the estuary, but it didn't show until we were back to the toll bridge, then it came through with a crazy amount of water flowing (like the whole estuary refilled in ten minutes!!). I went back out for a play, using the eddies to loop back around. All good fun, but time for some waves now please..
