5 Star Praa

I was definitely staying home! Absolutely definitely staying home! A trip to Thurso and two weekend trips to Cornwall in February already was hammering the bank account, what with desiel now at £1.35/Ltr  :-(  , there was no way I was driving to Cornwall again for yet another wind skunking and just a surf..  Luckily there was no forecast, so I didn't need to worry about it..

But what-do-you-know, BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM, another forecast appeared out of no where on Friday morning which I couldn't miss. A Leven forecast, and a forecast which actually looked pretty windy! So off I trundled again, on another 10hr round trip, for the 4th weekend in a row..

Things didn't get off to a good start. My poor 5th gear decided it had had enough of endless 85mph motorway miles and decided 4th could do the job instead. Hmmmm, deepest Kernow was now going to take a bit longer than expected...

Infact the extra hour on top of the journey was sufficient for me to miss the Leven session. I pulled up to see a limp looking Leven and Ian Black just getting out the water. Apparently he'd had two epic waves and was packing up as nothing else had come through...  it was now incredibly looking a bit of a mush fest. Pretty gualling after 'just missing' last weekends 'other SW reef' in similer fashion..

But finally my luck was about to change.. word on the beach was that Praa was looking good. Nick Moffatt and Jan Sleigh were already on it, and Stevie King was heading down...

It was pretty light and gusty wobble 'n' ride, but massive fun. Starboard tack for a change (can't remember my last), very punchy and great for trying stuff...

All pics by my wonderful wife Trudie..

Sunday was forecast similar in the morning, then to swing and pick up to a 30mph Northerly. It did neither, leaving us all a bit confused for a while (head to a beach for the N wind? the current NW wind? North coast? South coast?...), until we all ended up back at Praa for more of the same...

I had a surf at Bantham in the morning, which was ok and nice to bump into fellow speeder Bryn Dampney. On the 5'8 Quiver again which is really growing on me. Oh, I bought a 6'6 Firewire Flexfire step up board too last week.. oh dear, need a purge at some point soon..

No Trudie, so no pics, but I did stick the GoPro on. It was a lot more offshore and a lot more difficult, very tiring, and not good for practicing 360's and stuff, but awesome fun again. Sunny, windy, head high, x-off, payback time!...

Punchy as you like!

Top top weekend. Proper job. Loving the GoPro! (more pics in the gallery and a video when I get time). Oh, and loving my XCEL 5mm hooded wetsuit -the temptation of a snuggly dry suit was too much so the 'getting thru winter in a 4mm' test is over, I'm officially soft. Wish I'd had it for Thurso, I'd have lived in it!

Didn't get home 'til 1am Monday morning. Might be a while until my next Bloggage...
