Rock dodging
Image

It's been over a month since my splattering on the rocks and I've been gagging to get back on the water. The weather hasn't really been playing ball though as I'm sure everyone in blighty knows; it's been freezing cold, windless and waveless (-well except for the day I got stuck at work when two out of those three weren't the case)

So despite the rather limp forecast I decided to go down to Cornwall for the weekend. It originally looked windy, but by Friday night it was just a low period swell with a balmy 7 degrees.

Saturday was actually bit of a disaster. I had to pick up a Stretch Quad Fish at 12, so didn't get a chance to go for a surf before the wind got on it. Not a windsurfable wind, but the usual annoying 12mph from the SW. Ended up doing the drive round (that's the Lizard peninsular above) before getting in at Porthtowan which was surprisingly fun despite the strengthening onshore wind and high tide. Haven't gone out in something looking so jiz for years but had a really good surf!

Sunday and the wind was Northerly, it was noticably colder (bloody baltic, surely not 7?) but the surf was much cleaner. Headed back to the Lizard and surfed some of the rockiest waves ever, perfect! -to say I was a tad paranoid would be an understatement!

And then to truly 'get back on the horse' we headed to 'that south coast reef' where I surfed the same rib breaking bloody lung filling spot. At least this time it was daylight and high tide, and to be honest considerably limper, still pretty rocky mind..

Despite the low single figure air temperatures, I'm still testing my theory that I can get through the winter in a 4/3 Xcel wetsuit (with a poly pro hoody vest, boots and gloves) -so far so good! Wouldn't want to spoil myself before any really cold weather anyway...

Whilst I've been layed up I've been mostly walking the dog, I guess everyone's seen plenty of English winter/snow pics by now, but here's my take anyway...  sorry... All off the iphone..

I didn't go crazy on those with photoshop either, just seemed to get some really stunning sunsets and funky colours whilst the snow was in the sky.

Finally had to share this pic of Julian Durham and John Crosby from back in the day at Rutland water. Classic pic nicked from Ju's FB page...

Guess which sport Ju (on the right) loves now?...

Looks like this week could bring some decent wind to the East Coast, maybe Runton Thursday (NW 22mph, 8ft, 5 degrees and sunny..) fingers crossed..
