Image

Finally we had a forecast for Kirby, and this time one which listened to our prayers and came good! It's been a very very long wait..

The WIND!!

Speedies came from far and wide with a huge turn out including Oisin Van Gelderen and Martin Waldron from Ireland, Kev Greenslade and Pete Young from Weymouth, Gump from Fraisethorpe, Faz from Abersoch, loads of newbies including Rutland local Ben Tilston and all the usual Kirby crew. Pretty much everyone scored a PB, a lot of stoke going on!

I used my Simmer 5.5 SCR, Moo 40 speed and our new Moo/k4fins fin to get a max display of 48.5knots! My average worked out at 45.3 putting me into the top ten all time gps ranking and 4th for this year. The new fin is working super well, rock solid in the chop and 'slippy as' on the run -keep checking the k4fin blog and Moo site for more info and a possible release.

GOPRO VIDEO

SPORTSTRACKLIVE

VIDEO FROM GUMP AND CHRIS (Dunkerdink) BROWNE

The course was a bit square with the straight Westerly wind; it's surprising how fast everyone went, although you had to bare away off the wall for good peaks, so the 10sec times suffered. If it had gone broader, it would have been amazing and I'm sure we'd have been pushing 50. I'm only 78kg (plus the 10kg lead) and was more than happy bimbling about on the 5.5, so I guess we could have handled a lot more wind too! (I still have a 4.6 and 5.0 to bust out). Infact, I was a bit unsure about the 2011 Simmers as they are soo easy to sail, I was worried they wouldn't be fast.. I guess they've worked some magic and the kit just keeps getting better!

Farrel won the day again with a 45.8Knot 10sec average - well done Faz! Atleast I was only half a knot behind this time and might have been closer if I hadn't been taking pics of his fastest first run! Pipped Faz on the peak though, wahoo!

Thanks to Oisin for taking the above pics of me. Here's my pics of everyone else..

Big thanks to Howie Rowson for his know how and forecasting, and to Trunky for the sandwiches and tea!

Finally, I also got to use my new 2011 missions for the first time (for a spot of fast freestylee), loving the feel of them and they look sweet too. Can't wait to get them in some gnarly waves.
